Summary: Supports NCATS CTSA Program KL2/K12 scholars in their transition to independent translational science research careers through small, self-contained projects.
Key Information: Eligibility is limited to recent KL2/K12 scholars from NCATS CTSA Program; applications must be submitted within 2 years of KL2/K12 completion.
This funding opportunity from the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) at NIH is designed to support the transition of Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) Program KL2/K12 scholars to independent academic translational scientists. The R03 mechanism provides small grants for discrete, well-defined translational science projects that can be completed in a short period with limited resources. Projects may include pilot and feasibility studies, secondary data analysis, development of research methodology or technology, and other innovative translational research activities.
The program aims to address general roadblocks in translational science, foster innovative solutions, and generate preliminary data to support future R01 or equivalent applications. Both clinical trial and non-clinical trial projects are eligible, but support for clinical trials is limited to phase IIB (with exceptions for phase III trials in rare diseases).
