    Description

This opportunity from the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) seeks research projects that develop, optimize, and test methods to increase access to and quality of empirically-supported mental health practices for youth (defined as birth to age 25). The focus is on addressing the U.S. youth mental health crisis, particularly among underserved populations such as those in rural or inner-city areas, those experiencing housing or food insecurity, and other under-resourced groups.

    Projects may address:

    • Optimizing assessment, intervention, and service strategies.
    • Overcoming workforce shortages and waitlists for treatment.
    • Integrating treatment and preventive interventions into settings where youth are most likely to be identified (e.g., schools, pediatric medicine, social services, juvenile justice).
    • Service interventions that address systemic barriers (structural, policy, organizational, financial, or management).

Both clinical trials and non-trial research are supported. Deployment-focused, scalable, and sustainable approaches are strongly encouraged, as is research that addresses disparities in access and outcomes.
