This fellowship opportunity, offered through the NRC Research Associateship Programs, supports postdoctoral researchers at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Physical Measurement Laboratory, Microsystems and Nanotechnology Division. The research focus is on the structure-function determination of membrane proteins, which are challenging to study using traditional X-ray crystallography.
NIST employs advanced biophysical techniques such as neutron reflectometry, small-angle neutron scattering, surface plasmon resonance, and electrophysiology to elucidate the structure, function, and assembly mechanisms of membrane proteins. Current research targets include bacterial toxins that are potential biowarfare agents, such as anthrax and clostridium toxins.
