Description
This fellowship opportunity, offered through the NRC Research Associateship Programs at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), supports postdoctoral research in temperature measurement and its applications. Research spans contact and noncontact temperature measurement techniques covering temperatures from below 1 K to above 3000 K. Key areas of interest include:
- Assessment and improvement of the International Temperature Scale of 1990 (ITS-90) accuracy.
- Development of new fixed-point temperature standards based on metal eutectics.
- Direct realization of thermodynamic temperature.
- Determination of the Boltzmann constant using methods such as infrared radiometry, Johnson noise thermometry, dielectric thermometry, and acoustic thermometry with competitive or improved uncertainties.
- Creation of new contact and noncontact temperature standards and dissemination methods with reduced uncertainties.
- Advancement of temperature measurement applications in environmental monitoring, process control, and manufacturing.
The research is conducted at NIST’s Physical Measurement Laboratory, Sensor Science Division, located in Gaithersburg, MD.
