Description
The NOAA Ocean Acidification Program (OAP), through the NRC Research Associateship Programs, offers postdoctoral and senior research fellowships focused on synthesizing existing NOAA-funded data to better understand the impacts of ocean acidification (OA) and other climate-related stressors on marine species and ecosystems within United States Large Marine Ecosystems.
Research topics may include:
- Quantifying physiological, developmental, and genetic changes in marine calcifying and non-calcifying organisms across life stages due to OA and interacting stressors.
- Synthesizing data to assess species-level impacts of OA combined with other climate stressors.
- Investigating acclimation and adaptation mechanisms to extrapolate individual species responses to long-term ecosystem-scale effects.
- Integrating species response data into stock assessments and fishery resource models.
- Enhancing ecosystem model parameterization by combining chemical observations with species-specific OA sensitivity data.
Applicants are expected to make significant use of NOAA data repositories and collaborate with NOAA scientists.
