Description
The Naval Research Laboratory (NRL), through the NRC Research Associateship Programs, invites postdoctoral researchers to submit proposals for basic research focused on ocean optics and ocean color remote sensing. The research aims to deepen understanding of how light interacts with suspended and dissolved matter in oceanic, coastal, estuarine, and riverine waters. This knowledge is critical for interpreting remotely sensed optical signals such as hyperspectral imagery and LIDAR data, and for improving Earth system models.
Research topics may include environmental modeling, image analysis, and in situ observations. The program encourages projects that enhance knowledge of land-ocean interactions, coastal ocean ecology, and climate change impacts.
Awards are made for one year with the possibility of renewal for up to three years, contingent on mutual agreement and funding availability.
