Description
This fellowship opportunity at the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) focuses on advancing nondestructive evaluation methods for polymeric and ceramic materials using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) imaging. The project aims to:
- Extend NMR imaging techniques to include NQR imaging.
- Develop new methods with improved sensitivity and chemical selectivity.
- Detect impurities and undesirable additives in objects ranging from small electronic components to large shipping containers.
- Apply imaging to novel systems, including the detection of specific materials such as explosives.
The NRL provides access to a custom planar imaging system, commercial imaging accessories linked to an 11.7 Tesla system, and three NQR spectrometers to support this research.
