    Description

This fellowship opportunity at the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) in Monterey, CA, supports multidisciplinary postdoctoral research aimed at understanding complex tropical atmospheric and oceanic processes. The research focuses on large-scale atmospheric waves, monsoon systems, atmospheric rivers, tropical cyclones, diurnal cycles, cloud formation, and precipitation processes. Central to the work is the study of coupled interactions and feedback mechanisms among the air, ocean, waves, land, and hydrology.

Researchers will utilize the NRL regional coupled model alongside in-situ and remotely sensed observational data to diagnose and develop improved coupled parameterizations. Participation in field programs is also encouraged to enhance understanding of multiscale nonlinear interactions. The ultimate goal is to improve weather and seasonal forecasting capabilities.

Key research themes include air-sea interaction, Madden-Julian oscillations, tropical cyclone dynamics, monsoon variability, tropical waves, and coupled atmosphere-land-hydrology processes.
