The Advanced Manufacturing (AM) program from the National Science Foundation funds fundamental research aimed at revitalizing American manufacturing, growing national prosperity and workforce, and reshaping strategic industries. The program seeks to accelerate advances in manufacturing technologies, with a strong emphasis on multidisciplinary and convergent research that can fundamentally alter and transform manufacturing capabilities, methods, and practices.
Research proposals should address issues related to national prosperity and security, and contribute to advancing knowledge that sustains U.S. global leadership in manufacturing. The program encourages projects that cross traditional domain boundaries and bring manufacturing to new application areas, including those outside the customary manufacturing portfolio.

Interdisciplinary and convergent proposals are especially welcome, as are projects that incorporate novel challenges and approaches to broaden the impact of advanced manufacturing research in the U.S.
