--- ## Description This program supports innovative, hypothesis-driven research that advances knowledge of the Earth’s deep-time sedimentary crust and the evolution of life and environments prior to the Holocene epoch. Projects may focus on: - The evolution of life, ecology, environments, and biogeography using fossils, sediments, and/or geochemical proxies. - Geological processes forming and shaping the sedimentary lithosphere, including resource formation. - New geochronological studies measuring rates and sequences of pre-Holocene sedimentary and biological events. - The production, transport, and deposition of physical, bioclastic, and chemical sediments in the geologic record. Proposals centered on modern or Holocene samples must clearly articulate how the research will inform understanding of pre-Holocene (deep-time) processes. The program encourages interdisciplinary approaches and projects that address unresolved questions or test new hypotheses in sedimentary geology and paleobiology. Broader Impacts activities, including those that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in the geosciences, are strongly encouraged. --- ## Due Dates - Proposals accepted anytime --- ## Funding Amount - Estimated total annual program funding: ~$10,400,000 - Expected number of awards: 20–30 per year - Typical award duration: up to 3 years - No cost-sharing or matching required --- ## Eligibility - Eligible applicants: Unrestricted.
