This grant opportunity by NSF and UKRI aims to enhance international collaboration in research by allowing US and UK researchers to submit joint proposals under a single review process across multiple engineering disciplines.
Funder: National Science Foundation
Due Dates: Proposals accepted anytime (RCO required 60 days prior to full proposal)
Funding Amounts: Estimated $6,000,000 annually; 5–10 awards per year; award size/duration varies by program
Summary: Supports collaborative US-UK research in engineering, ICT, and manufacturing through a single joint proposal and review process.
Key Information: A Research Concept Outline (RCO) must be approved by NSF at least 60 days before full proposal submission.
This opportunity enables collaborative research between US and UK investigators in engineering and related fields. The program is jointly managed by the NSF Directorate for Engineering (ENG) and the UKRI Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). Its primary goal is to reduce barriers to international collaboration by allowing US and UK researchers to submit a single, joint proposal to either NSF or EPSRC, which will then undergo a unified review process. The non-lead agency will honor the review outcome and funding decision of the lead agency.
Eligible research areas are at the intersection of the NSF's CBET (Chemical, Bioengineering, Environmental, and Transport Systems), CMMI (Civil, Mechanical and Manufacturing Innovation), and ECCS (Electrical, Communications and Cyber Systems) divisions, and the EPSRC's Engineering, ICT, and Manufacturing the Future themes.
