Funds multinational, interdisciplinary research on how biological, social, and environmental factors shape neurodegenerative disease trajectories using innovative, integrative approaches.
Funder: Canadian Institutes of Health Research
Due Dates: March 10, 2026 (Pre-proposal) | June 30, 2026 (Full proposal) | July 7, 2026 (Abbreviated CIHR application)
Funding Amounts: Up to $111,000 CAD/year for 3 years (max $333,000 CAD per grant); ~5 Canadian teams funded; total Canadian envelope $1,665,000 CAD.
Summary: Supports multinational, multidisciplinary research on how biological, social, and environmental factors shape neurodegenerative disorder trajectories across the lifespan.
Key Information: Multistage application: pre-proposal to EP BrainHealth, full proposal, and abbreviated application to CIHR for eligible Canadian teams.
This opportunity funds collaborative, multinational research projects that investigate how biological, social, and environmental factors impact brain health trajectories in the context of neurodegenerative disorders (e.g., Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, prion diseases, motor neuron diseases). The call encourages holistic, integrative approaches—combining in-depth biological understanding with lifestyle, social, and environmental perspectives—to address critical translational questions. Projects should use innovative methodologies, such as multimodal data integration, wearable technologies, artificial intelligence, and drug repurposing, and are encouraged to address women's health, underrepresented populations, and quality of life outcomes for patients and carers.
Consortia must address at least two of the three factor types (biological, social/lifestyle, environmental) and at least one aspect among mechanisms, biomarkers, or interventions. Funded projects are expected to be ambitious, interdisciplinary, and translational, with strong patient and public involvement.
