Description
The Pennsylvania Farm Bill, administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, supports a collection of agricultural programs and initiatives. Its goals are to expand opportunities and resources, remove barriers to entry, and develop future agricultural leaders. Support includes business planning, marketing, diversification, farm ownership transitions, nutrition and agriculture education, and youth workforce development.
Other priorities include conservation practices in priority areas of the Chesapeake Bay Watershed, dairy innovation and value-added processing, expanded meat and poultry processing capacity, and food safety assistance. Market initiatives support specialty crops such as hardwoods, hemp, and hops, veteran farmers, and organic production. Disaster readiness funding supports rapid responses to animal health, plant health, and foodborne illness emergencies. Individual programs provide different forms of assistance, including grants, reimbursements, low-interest loans, and tax benefits.
