Funds UCSF pilot research using HIVE-developed engineering technologies in innovative bioscience and health studies.
Funder: University of California San Francisco
Due Dates (Anticipated): October 2026 (Full application deadline, projected)
Funding Amounts: $25,000 per award; 1-year, non-renewable; direct costs only
Summary: Supports innovative UCSF projects applying engineering science and HIVE-developed technologies to bioscience and health research.
Key Information: Projects must use HIVE-developed technologies; commercial tech proposals are not eligible.
This opportunity funds pilot research projects at UCSF that integrate engineering science and technology into basic, translational, or clinical bioscience and health research. The focus is on innovative applications of engineering in areas where such approaches are not yet common—such as investigating cellular material properties or developing implantable health-monitoring sensors. Projects must utilize technologies developed by HIVE Center members; proposals for new uses of commercial technologies are not eligible. Awardees are expected to present their findings at the annual HIVE symposia and submit a progress report detailing outcomes, publications, and subsequent funding.
