This fellowship supports the advancement and completion of a doctoral dissertation focused on European art before the early 19th century. The 24-month award is structured with the first year devoted to dissertation research abroad and the second year spent in residence at the Center for Advanced Study in the Visual Arts (CASVA) at the National Gallery of Art. During the residency, fellows participate in National Gallery research projects aligned with their dissertation and gain curatorial experience.
