    Description

The Promise Neighborhoods program, administered by the Office of Elementary and Secondary Education, funds collaborative, place-based initiatives aimed at dramatically improving educational and developmental outcomes for children and youth in the nation’s most distressed neighborhoods. The program focuses on ensuring school readiness, increasing high school graduation rates, and providing access to a continuum of high-quality, community-based services. Projects are expected to address multiple indicators of distress—such as high poverty rates, academic challenges, and juvenile delinquency—and ensure accessibility for children with disabilities and English learners.

Promise Neighborhoods initiatives are built on strong backbone organizations, flexible funding for year-round K–12 interventions, and robust partnerships within the community, including local organizers and youth leaders, to create a cradle-to-career pipeline of support.
