This grant program aims to significantly improve academic and developmental outcomes for children and youth living in the most distressed communities in the United States. The initiative focuses on neighborhoods with high concentrations of low-income individuals and multiple signs of distress, such as high rates of poverty, childhood obesity, academic challenges, juvenile delinquency, and adverse childhood experiences. The program also supports schools implementing comprehensive or targeted support and improvement activities under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA). All proposed strategies must ensure accessibility for children with disabilities and English learners.
