Description
This opportunity from the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor (DRL) seeks proposals to strengthen the ability of European countries and institutions to protect freedom of expression, political pluralism, and national self-government. The program directly supports U.S. National Security Strategy priorities by fostering healthy, democratic societies in Central, Eastern, and Southern Europe through commercial ties, political collaboration, and cultural and educational exchanges.
Projects should address the erosion of democratic traditions and civilizational values in Europe, focusing on countering overbroad restrictions on speech, supporting national sovereignty, and promoting pluralism. The funding supports civil society organizations, think tanks, and educational institutions working to defend fundamental freedoms and support democratic institutions. Initiatives may include legal advocacy, policy development, educational and research programs, and community-based activities, particularly those assisting victims of religious or political persecution and integrating refugees in ways that respect national sovereignty.
The award will be a cooperative agreement, with substantial involvement from DRL in programmatic planning and implementation.
