Summary: Supports building sustainable counterterrorism capabilities in Pakistan’s Balochistan Province to safeguard U.S. access to critical minerals and enhance regional security.
This opportunity, offered by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Counterterrorism, aims to protect American economic and security interests by strengthening Pakistan’s law enforcement counterterrorism capabilities in Balochistan Province. The program is designed to deliver tangible benefits for U.S. taxpayers by ensuring continued commercial access to critical minerals vital for technological advancement, defense manufacturing, and economic competitiveness.
Balochistan contains significant deposits of minerals essential to U.S. national security, but ongoing threats from terrorist organizations (such as the Balochistan Liberation Army, ISIS-K, and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan) jeopardize access to these resources. The program seeks to reduce Pakistan’s reliance on U.S. support by developing sustainable, self-sufficient local law enforcement able to independently identify, disrupt, and deter terrorist networks. Activities may include technical assistance for critical infrastructure protection and equipment provision, with a strong emphasis on Pakistani ownership and institutional capacity.
