This program funds public art projects in Massachusetts that creatively express and embody more just possibilities for public spaces. The grant is rooted in the belief that the arts are a powerful tool for positive change, with an emphasis on shifting public culture and imagining more equitable futures. Projects must activate public space, engage the public realm, and foster deeper relationships to place, centering the humanity of the communities involved. Proposals led or co-led by Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) artists, or those deeply rooted in their communities (especially rural or displaced areas), are particularly encouraged. All artistic disciplines—including visual, performative, and ritual-based projects—are eligible as long as they contribute to spatial justice.
