--- ## Description The Washington Sea Grant Puget Sound Science Research Fellowship provides support for graduate students conducting research that advances the recovery of Puget Sound and develops future science leaders in the region. Projects must align with the Puget Sound Partnership’s Science Work Plan (2025–2029 Priority Science Work Actions) and demonstrate clear benefits to the Puget Sound region. Fellows are expected to engage in rigorous research, collaborate with communication teams, participate in events, and share research milestones, contributing to the advancement of science and policy for Puget Sound recovery. --- ## Due Dates - January 2027: Letter of Intent deadline (anticipated/projected) - January 2027: Full application deadline (anticipated/projected) *All dates are projected based on the annual cycle; check the program page for updates.* --- ## Funding Amount - Award: $60,000 per year, for up to two years (total up to $120,000). - Typically, one fellowship is awarded per cycle. - Funds may be used for graduate student salary, tuition, fees, health benefits, research, and project-related travel. - Continued funding for the second year is contingent on satisfactory performance and availability of funds. --- ## Eligibility - Open to students currently or recently admitted to a Master’s degree program at a Washington State-based institution. - Eligible disciplines include natural resources, environmental sciences, environmental policy and management, engineering, social sciences, human dimensions, or coastal/aquatic/related sciences. - Applicants must remain enrolled and in good academic standing at an accredited institution throughout the fellowship. - Projects must address priority topics from the Puget Sound Science Work Plan and benefit the Puget Sound region. - Fellowship programs are open to all qualified applicants regardless of background; diversity and inclusion are encouraged. --- ## Application Process - Submit a Letter of Intent (LOI) via the [eSeaGrant online portal](https://esg.wsg.washington.edu/). - Only applicants who submit an LOI by the deadline may submit a full application. - Full application includes: project title, contact information, personal goal statement, responses to professional development prompts, two letters of recommendation (academic and professional), CVs/resumes (max 2 pages each), project narrative (max 8 pages), transcripts, and detailed budget with justification. - Budget must include travel to at least one conference and two to three regional meetings per year. - No matching funds required. - Applications are reviewed by a panel for scientific merit, relevance to the Science Work Plan, and applicant potential.
