This program supports innovative, investigator-initiated research on the roles of race, ethnicity, nativity, and legal status—and their intersections with other social categories—in shaping social, economic, and political outcomes for immigrants, U.S.-born racial and ethnic minorities, and native-born whites. The Russell Sage Foundation encourages multidisciplinary approaches that enhance data, theory, and methods in social science, with the goal of advancing understanding and fostering a more pluralist society. Proposals may address a wide array of topics such as intergroup relations, immigration policy, legal status, social movements, racial/ethnic competition, criminal justice, and the historical context of race and immigration in the U.S.
