Description
The Recreational Trails Program is funded by the Federal Highway Administration and administered in Oregon by the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department (OPRD). It aims to expand and improve public trails for motorized, non-motorized, and water-based recreation. Eligible work includes new trail construction, substantial restoration, trailheads, trail equipment, land or easement acquisition, trail assessments, and safety or environmental education.
Projects must be primarily recreational rather than serving a transportation function. Oregon reserves at least 30% of its program funds for motorized trail projects. The program generally funds work on the ground, with more limited funding available for education and trail assessments.
