This program provides support for small-scale research projects at U.S. health professional schools and graduate schools that have not been major recipients of NIH funding. The goal is to stimulate meritorious research, enhance the research environment, and provide significant research experiences for health professional, undergraduate, and graduate students. The program is designed to broaden the participation of institutions and investigators in the NIH research enterprise, particularly those with limited prior NIH support.
Projects must be research-focused (not training or fellowship programs) and should actively involve students in all aspects of the research process. The program is not open to clinical trials.
