The Arizona Historical Society (AHS) Research Fellowship supports visiting scholars undertaking one to three weeks of archival research in Arizona. The program advances the study of Arizona, the Southwest, and northern Mexico through work in history, government, legal or public policy, and the arts. Awards help defray the costs of a research stay, with preference for applicants who spend most of their residency using AHS archives. Researchers using other archives in Arizona may also apply.
A central priority is work with a high probability of publication in the Journal of Arizona History or another scholarly publication. Public history projects are welcome, provided research at AHS ultimately results in publishable scholarly work. Fellows also share their research with AHS’s public audience through social media, blog posts, interviews, virtual programs, or other public engagement.
