    Description

The Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation’s research grants fund innovative, field-initiated research projects that deepen understanding of equitable economic mobility. The Foundation seeks proposals that address systemic barriers and opportunities within education, workforce development, and entrepreneurship, particularly those that can generate actionable insights and inform systems change. Projects should advance both theoretical and practical knowledge, especially for historically underserved groups, and are expected to clearly define key concepts, demonstrate strong alignment between research questions and methods, and outline intended outcomes.

The Foundation encourages methodological, disciplinary, and geographical diversity, including participatory and cross-disciplinary approaches. While research does not need to be conducted in Kansas City, competitive proposals must show how findings are relevant to the Kansas City region (which includes Cass, Clay, Jackson, Johnson, Platte, and Wyandotte counties in Missouri and Kansas). Emphasis is also placed on dissemination, collaboration, and the translation of research into practice.
