This program funds high-quality research that builds, tests, or deepens understanding of programs, policies, or practices aimed at reducing inequality in the academic, social, behavioral, or economic outcomes of young people ages 5–25 in the United States. The foundation is especially interested in studies that address disparities related to race, ethnicity, economic standing, sexual or gender minority status, language minority status, or immigrant origins. Both descriptive and intervention studies are supported, with a strong emphasis on work that informs actionable strategies and addresses the structural foundations of inequality, including systemic racism. The program welcomes interdisciplinary approaches and values research that can have a direct impact on policy or practice.
