--- ## Description The Research on the Arts Program (RAP) is a collaborative initiative between the Arab Fund for Arts and Culture (AFAC) and the Arab Council for the Social Sciences (ACSS). RAP aims to support interdisciplinary and experimental research on artistic practices relevant to the Arab region, encouraging projects that bridge the arts, humanities, and social sciences. The program seeks to generate critical knowledge about the interplay between art, society, and broader social, economic, and political contexts. It welcomes a wide range of research strategies and outputs, requiring a substantial written component and encouraging comparative, collaborative, and cross-disciplinary approaches. Proposals may address topics such as art and everyday life, historical and contemporary art practices, art and the state, pop culture, marginalized art histories, and more. --- ## Due Dates - August 2026: Full application deadline (anticipated/projected) *All dates are projected based on the annual cycle; check the program page for updates.* --- ## Funding Amount - Individual researchers: up to $15,000 - Teams or collectives: up to $25,000 - Institutions: up to $35,000 - Grant duration: 18 months (individuals, teams, collectives); up to 24 months (institutions) --- ## Eligibility - **Nationality/Residence:** Applicants must be citizens or nationals (including long-term residents, refugees, or stateless residents) of an Arab country (League of Arab States) and based in the Arab region. - Teams/collectives: Team leader must meet the above; teams may include diaspora or non-Arabs, but at least two members must be Arab citizens/nationals based in the region. - Institutions: Must be based and registered in the Arab region (branches of foreign organizations are not eligible). - **Disciplines:** Open to researchers in arts, humanities, social sciences, and allied fields (e.g., art history, literature, anthropology, musicology, performance arts, sociology, gender studies, urban studies). - **Educational Requirements:** - Individuals: PhD in a relevant field or an art practitioner with extensive experience. - Teams/collectives: Principal investigator must be a PhD holder or an experienced art practitioner; up to three team members may be MA holders and/or art practitioners. - **Prior Grantees:** ACSS grantees (principal/co-investigators) may only apply if previous grants closed before 2020.
