Responsive Grants from the Henry Luce Foundation's Asia Program are designed to advance knowledge and understanding of East and Southeast Asia, with a strong emphasis on strengthening the field of Asian studies in the United States. These grants support a broad range of activities, including research and training, creation of scholarly and public resources, and intellectual and cultural exchanges between Americans and Asians. The program is intentionally broad, enabling support for Asia-focused teaching and research initiatives, collaborative infrastructure building, policy-relevant research and dialogue, public education efforts, next-generation training and leadership development, and cross-disciplinary or cross-sector collaboration.
Priority is given to projects that:
Standalone travel, publication, translation, or individual research projects are not eligible, and only limited funds are available for standalone conferences or media productions. The program does not support projects focused on South or Central Asia, except as part of broader inter-Asia connections.
