This postdoctoral fellowship opportunity at the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) focuses on advanced radio-frequency microelectromechanical (RF-MEMS) acoustic resonators. The research involves developing novel RF-MEMS acoustic resonators using high-quality piezoelectric, semiconducting, multiferroic, wide bandgap, and superconducting materials grown in-house. The devices are used for fundamental and applied research in areas such as materials discovery and characterization, conventional RF-acoustic signal processing, sensing, and quantum acoustodynamics.
The program invites innovative proposals exploring multi-physics phenomena in advanced RF acoustic resonators, including phonon-photon, phonon-magnon, and phonon-electron coupling. There is particular interest in understanding and utilizing the physics of RF-MEMS resonators under regimes that enable coupling between quantum states (such as spin or superconducting qubits) and acoustic phonons.
The NRL provides extensive computational resources, materials growth, device fabrication, and characterization facilities to support this research.
