This grant program is designed to increase the number of seats in existing, high-quality charter schools across New York State, with a focus on serving students most at risk of not meeting state academic standards. Funded under Title IV, Part C of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), the program aims to expand proven charter schools, particularly those serving educationally disadvantaged students, including economically disadvantaged, students with disabilities, English learners, migrant, homeless, and foster youth.
Grant funds may support activities such as professional development, acquisition of educational materials and technology, minor facility renovations (not construction), recruitment, and community engagement directly related to the approved expansion. Funds cannot be used for daily operations or general construction.
