Open to all academic disciplines, the scheme aims to nurture early-career researchers—local and non-local—by offering a competitive stipend and travel allowance, fostering the development of scientific and research skills essential to Hong Kong’s academic and innovation landscape. The fellowship is divided into two broad streams: Humanities, Social Sciences and Business Studies, and Sciences, Medicine, Engineering and Technology. From the 2025/26 cycle, the scheme will be renamed the RGC Junior Research Fellow Scheme (JRFS).
