The Rising Psychiatry Scholars Program (RPSP) is a one-year hybrid (virtual with in-person components) workforce development initiative by the American Psychiatric Association (APA) designed for students at accredited U.S. two-year colleges. The program provides a comprehensive curriculum that includes a Kaplan Critical Thinking course, virtual academic and career development sessions, mentorship from medical students, and an in-person networking opportunity at the Future Leaders Academy. The primary goal is to help participants build foundational skills, explore psychiatry as a career, and successfully transition to four-year colleges, laying the groundwork for future careers in mental health and medicine.
