The Rita Allen Foundation Scholars Award in Pain is designed to support early-career researchers whose work seeks to advance the fundamental understanding of pain mechanisms, with the goal of informing new therapies for chronic pain. Since 2009, the program has recognized emerging leaders in basic pain research, providing flexible resources for innovative projects in molecular biology and related fields. Recipients are selected by a committee of leading pain researchers, including past awardees, and are encouraged to pursue research directions of their own choosing. The program is administered in partnership with the U.S. Association for the Study of Pain (USASP).
