The Scholars in Global Women’s Health Research Program, also known as the LEA-WH Fellowship, is a competitive, cohort-based initiative designed to nurture and equip Africa's next generation of leaders in women's health research and innovation. Hosted by the National Academy of Medicine (NAM) in partnership with the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), the program offers a 12-month immersive experience combining technical training, structured mentorship, leadership development, and global convening opportunities.
Participants engage in both research and innovation tracks, benefit from a robust mentor network, and gain exposure to international and regional networks in women's health. The program covers all travel and accommodation costs for in-person convenings and provides access to digital learning platforms and professional development resources.
Fellows are expected to strengthen their research or innovation skills, develop new proposals, and contribute to advancing women's health across Africa. The program’s impact is measured through research outputs, career progression, grant submissions, and practical innovations.
