The Schomburg-Mellon Humanities Summer Institute is an immersive, four-week, in-person fellowship hosted at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture in New York City. The program is designed to encourage students of color and those with interests in African-American, African, and African Diaspora Studies to pursue PhDs in the humanities. Participants engage in seminars led by distinguished scholars, receive mentorship, conduct archival research, and participate in cultural excursions. The fellowship includes housing, daily meals, most travel costs, and a stipend.
