Description
This funding opportunity from the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs (OES) seeks to advance seabed mapping, exploration, habitat/resource characterization, and data management in Pacific Island Countries (PICs). The program aims to fill critical knowledge gaps and provide high-quality scientific data to PIC governments for responsible seabed mineral management and regulatory decision-making. Activities will be conducted in cooperation with relevant PIC governments and stakeholders, with a focus on building capacity and fostering U.S. private sector and scientific engagement in the region.
Priority countries include the Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Tonga, and other PICs. The funded projects will support U.S. diplomatic and economic policy objectives, enhance scientific understanding, and promote responsible, transparent private sector investment in seabed mineral development.
