Senior Fellowships at the Center for Advanced Study in the Visual Arts (CASVA) provide accomplished scholars with the opportunity to pursue full-time, in-residence research at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. Fellows receive office space in the East Building and, subject to availability, housing nearby. The fellowship aims to foster rigorous research and scholarly engagement through access to the Gallery’s extensive library, art collections, and the broader academic resources of the Washington, D.C. area. Fellows participate in lectures, colloquia, and collaborative activities within a dynamic academic community. The program supports research spanning the history, theory, and criticism of visual arts from any period or region, with particular fellowships dedicated to European art before the early 19th century and to modern and contemporary art.
