The Huntington Library’s Short-Term Awards provide funding for researchers to conduct in-residence projects that make significant use of The Huntington’s renowned collections in the humanities, art, and botanical sciences. Each year, approximately 140 short-term fellowships are awarded, supporting one to three months of research at The Huntington in San Marino, California. Projects should be rooted in The Huntington’s holdings, which are especially strong in areas such as American and British history, literature, art history, science and technology, and related fields. Specialized fellowships are available for topics ranging from science fiction (e.g., Octavia E. Butler Fellowship) and Renaissance England to Asian American history, civil engineering, maritime history, print culture, women’s history, and more. The program is inclusive of independent and unaffiliated scholars, as well as those from non-traditional backgrounds.
