Summary: Supports small rural hospitals in California to improve quality reporting, care coordination, and financial processes through targeted investments.
The Small Rural Hospital Improvement Program (SHIP) provides annual grants to small rural hospitals in California to help them implement delivery system changes, strengthen quality of care, and adapt to value-based payment models. Administered by the California Department of Health Care Access and Information (HCAI) via the California State Office of Rural Health, SHIP is federally funded by HRSA’s Federal Office of Rural Health Policy. Funds may be used for hardware, software, training, and activities that enhance data collection, quality reporting, participation in Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs), and hospital financial processes. The program aims to ensure that rural hospitals have the resources needed to maintain high standards of care and comply with federal quality initiatives.
