The Sustainable Materials Recovery Program (SMRP) Municipal Grant, administered by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP), provides funding to Massachusetts municipalities and regional entities to promote sustainable waste management. The program supports projects that increase recycling, composting/organics diversion, source reduction, reuse, and household hazardous waste management, as well as program development and enforcement activities. Since 2010, MassDEP has awarded over $55 million through SMRP and related programs, helping local governments develop and expand effective waste reduction strategies and infrastructure. The program includes several competitive grant categories and an incentive-based Recycling Dividends Program (RDP).
