Description
This grant aims to fund research and innovation projects that mature critical space equipment and associated technologies to reduce the European Union's reliance on non-EU sources. The initiative is part of the Horizon Europe framework and is designed to reinforce the EU's strategic autonomy by establishing sustainable, resilient, and secure supply chains for space equipment within the EU or using only trusted suppliers not subject to non-EU export restrictions.
Projects should:
- Address gaps in EU capabilities for critical space equipment and technologies.
- Build or reinforce supply chains based in the EU or, where necessary, involve only trusted suppliers not affected by non-EU export controls.
- Complement national and European space agency activities, with clear identification of complementary actions.
- Foster collaboration between space and non-space industries in Europe.
- Ensure long-term competitiveness, independence, and security of the EU space sector.
The specific equipment and technologies to be targeted will be selected based on institutional needs, stakeholder input, and the EU Observatory of Critical Technologies.
