Summary: Supports state, local, Tribal, and territorial prosecuting agencies to assign or hire prosecutors as Special Attorneys or Special Assistant U.S. Attorneys to investigate and prosecute fraud, drug, and human trafficking crimes involving criminal aliens.
This program provides funding to state, local, Tribal, and territorial prosecuting agencies to assign or hire qualified prosecutors as Special Attorneys under the direction of the National Fraud Enforcement Division or the Criminal Division, or as Special Assistant United States Attorneys (SAUSAs) within a U.S. Attorney’s Office. These cross-designated prosecutors will remain employees of their home agencies but will be tasked with investigating and prosecuting fraud and other crimes committed by aliens within the United States, as well as drug and human trafficking cases. The initiative aims to strengthen investigative and prosecutorial capacity, foster intergovernmental coordination, and enhance jurisdictions' abilities to handle these complex cases in cooperation with federal authorities.
