Summary: Supports state, local, Tribal, and territorial prosecuting agencies in assigning or hiring prosecutors to serve as Special Attorneys or Special Assistant U.S. Attorneys to investigate and prosecute fraud, drug, and human trafficking crimes committed by aliens in the U.S.
This opportunity provides funding for state, local, Tribal, and territorial prosecuting agencies to assign or hire qualified prosecutors as Special Attorneys or Special Assistant United States Attorneys (SAUSAs). These cross-designated prosecutors will work under the direction of the National Fraud Enforcement Division, the Criminal Division, or within a U.S. Attorney’s Office. The program aims to strengthen investigative and prosecutorial capacity, foster intergovernmental coordination, and enhance the ability of jurisdictions to investigate and prosecute fraud and other crimes committed by aliens, as well as drug and human trafficking offenses. Selected prosecutors remain employees of their home agencies but are empowered to investigate and prosecute relevant federal crimes for the duration of their appointment.
