The Special Programme Forced Migration, offered by the Gerda Henkel Stiftung, funds innovative, interdisciplinary research projects that address the causes, processes, and impacts of forced migration globally. The program seeks to expand the field of Forced Migration Studies by encouraging multidimensional, comparative, and intersectional research that bridges theory and practical social, humanitarian, and political concepts. Projects may span disciplines such as the humanities, social sciences, cultural studies, law, and economics, and should address one or more of six core thematic areas: forced-migration infrastructures, South-South (im)mobilities, multiple displacements, displaced people’s agency, gender and intersectionality, and (supra-)state influences on displacement processes. The program encourages collaboration with local knowledge-producers and individuals with lived experience of displacement, and expects applicants to reflect on ethical implications and dissemination strategies for both academic and broader audiences.
