This program, administered by the Office on Violence Against Women (OVW), provides reimbursement to federally recognized Tribal governments for expenses incurred in exercising Special Tribal Criminal Jurisdiction (STCJ) over non-Indian offenders who commit covered crimes within Indian country or Alaska Native Villages (under a DOJ pilot). Covered crimes include assault of Tribal justice personnel, child, dating, sexual and/or domestic violence, obstruction of justice, sex trafficking, stalking, and protection order violations. The reimbursement covers actual expenses from calendar year 2025 related to the investigation, prosecution, defense, supervision, and incarceration of offenders, as well as associated services and indirect costs.
