The Specialty Crop Multi-State Program (SCMP) is a federal grant initiative administered by the USDA Agricultural Marketing Service and implemented in California by the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA). The program aims to enhance the competitiveness of specialty crops—including fruits, vegetables, tree nuts, dried fruits, horticulture, and nursery crops (including floriculture)—through collaborative, multi-state projects. Funded projects must address regional or national issues such as food safety, plant pests and disease, research, crop-specific challenges, and marketing and promotion.
Key features of the program include a requirement for substantive partnerships between organizations in at least two different states and a focus on practical solutions that benefit specialty crop growers across state lines.
