The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) offers funding through the Staff Sergeant Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program (SSG Fox SPGP) to support community-based organizations in delivering suicide prevention services to Veterans and their families. The program aims to reduce Veteran suicide risk by improving mental health, well-being, financial stability, and social support through primarily non-clinical services. Grants are intended to enhance outreach, provide baseline mental health screening, connect individuals to VA and community resources, and address emergent needs that may contribute to suicide risk.
The SSG Fox SPGP is part of a broader public health approach, combining community-based prevention with clinical care linkages, and is authorized under the Commander John Scott Hannon Veterans Mental Health Care Improvement Act of 2019.
