Description
This opportunity funds staff support and facilitation for state-level engagement with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Nuclear Energy, Office of Storage & Transportation, specifically focused on planning for the future large-scale transportation of commercial used nuclear fuel (UNF) and high-level radioactive waste (HLW). The program aims to build and sustain cooperation between DOE and state governments across four U.S. regions (Eastern, Midwestern, Southern, Western) to address regional and state concerns, policy, and technical needs related to radioactive materials transportation and associated DOE program issues.
Principal activities include convening regional committees, supporting state participation in technical meetings, coordinating policy and infrastructure discussions, providing communication resources, and facilitating the transfer of information and best practices among states and with DOE. The awardee will also manage supplemental tasks tailored to region-specific needs in collaboration with state representatives.
