This scheme provides early-career clinical academics in the UK with modest research funding to help them gather preliminary data and develop stronger applications for longer-term fellowships or grants. Administered by the Academy of Medical Sciences and funded by the Wellcome Foundation alongside other major UK research funders, the grant is intended to bridge the gap for clinical lecturers who have a salary but lack funding for research expenses. Funding can be used for consumables, essential equipment, access charges, and technical support, but not for personal salary or hiring new staff.
